CLIFFHANGER RECAP
SANDY: Everything alright
MARIE: Yeah o.k. just about ready to go
SANDY: Right listen were going to take over Reception first, that way the screws on Night
Shift will be trapped inside the Building, their going to be our hostages, so make sure they don't get too ruffed up. The other group are going to take over D Block, and then work back to meet us. Don't make a sound until we get in on reception or else the screws will hear them get our, We have got to have hostages for Bargaining power.
(The Prisoners light fires, and start there Rioting, Meg and Jim realize they have Keys and are pursuing them through the corridors, Meg panics).
EPISODE 247 (SANDY'S RIOT)
(JIM AND MEG REACH RECEPTION)
JIM: Get the Police, here let me do that
MEG: I'm sorry Jim, It was just the Nerve's
JIM: I'm not surprised with that lot charging down upon you
JIM:Where the hell did they get those Keys from?
MEG: Perhaps they grabbed them off one of the other Officers
JIM:(THE POLICE ANSWER THE PHONE) Police please, (JIM ANSWERS MEGS QUESTION)
lets hope not, Yes Wentworth Detention Centre here, we've got a full-scale riot on our
hands, No they've got a set of Keys, they've got complete run of the place
(THE PRISONERS REACH RECEPTION)
Hazel: Their they are
Jim: Their breaking through to reception, we'll try to hold them atleast until you get here
Hazel: Hurry up there's two of them
Mouse: Hurry up they're getting away
Women: Hurry up here they are
(SANDY OPENS THE GATES TO RECEPTION JUST AS JIM AND MEG ESCAPE)
Sandy: Theres plenty more screws out there just waiting for us. O.k. you lot get some more
fire bombs get anything you can find thats weapons; iron bars, ?, anything at all, and
phillys find that bloody alarm and turn it of
Jim: They've broken out they've got fire bombs, they've got keys ,now, go to the armory break out some more rifles, quickly, bill got to the front gate tell them I've already phoned the police tell them whats happened
Jim: (TO MEG) Are you alright?
Meg: I'm cold thats all
(THE PRISONERS RUN WILD ABOUT THE BUILDING, NOT NOTICING JANET AND STEVE)
Janet: What's happened?
Steve: Maybe they've got the Women under control
Janet: Yeah well, wouldn't they sound an all-clear or something?
Steve: I've no idea, I've never been in a riot before have you?
Janet: No
(THE WOMEN ARE GETTING NEARER)
Steve: Quickly in here
Steve: We'll be found, we better get out of here
Janet: Yeah well we can't go to reception, they were heading that way
Steve: Well there must be some other way out?
Janet: Not that I know of
Steve: What about on the roof?
Janet: Well its Padlocked
Janet: Why don't we just barricade ourselves in here
Steve: No if they find that door shut they'll know somethings up, its only a matter
of time before they break in, look we'd better hide, the Laundries our best bet, its all
clear, lets go
Phyllis: Here they come
Marie: Great now we bust out of here
Sandy: I'm not sure that was what we wanted
Marie: I thought that was the whole idea
Women: Yeah
Sandy: The ideas to let people know how rotten things are in here
Marie: Yeah well I reckon they're goin' to take more notice if were right out there with em'
Hazel: Yeah
Marie: Course it's up to you, it's your show
Phyllis: What are we going to do
Hazel: We've come this far
Sandy: Yeah right, ok, hand out that stuff, Hazel you take half the women down to the
loading bay, open it, but don't move until I give the word, if we don't rush them all
together, it's not going to work
Hazel: Right all you lot, come with me
Sandy: And keep your heads down, those Bastards have got rifles
Hazel: They wouldn't use them, they wouldn't dare
Women: No
Sandy: You better hope they don't
(THE OFFICERS HAVE FORMED A BARRICADE OUT SIDE THE PRISON, JIM BEGINS TO DISTRIBUTE RIFLES TO THE STAFF)
Jim:Here (JIM HANDS MEG A RIFLE)
Meg: I couldn't
Jim: You probably won't have to use it
Meg: Then there's no point in taking it is there
Jim: Just hang on to it anyway we don't want the Women getting anyway to manage to get out
of there
(THE WOMEN START TO EMERGE FROM THE LOADING BAY)
Jim: Here we go, alright that's far enough, get back to your cells
Sandy: You've got to be joking
Jim: The Police are on their way, it would make much more sense for you to go back to your
cells
Sandy: Right on Girls get ready
Women: Come on, light em' light em'
(THE WOMEN HURL FIRE BOMBS)
Jim: Ready the rifle, aim Rifle, Fire
(THE OFFICERS SHOOT ABOVE THE PRISONERS HEADS, HAZEL TRIPS OVER)
Sandy: Get out the way, get back, get back
Jim: Hold your fire
Meg: Anybody hit?
Jim: I don't think so, we were firing above there heads
Meg:(ON SEEING HAZEL) What about her?
Jim: I think she tripped
Meg: It could have been a ricochet
(THE WOMEN PULL HAZEL IN AS THE BAY DOORS CLOSE)
Hazel: Ah, it's me' arm
Jim: Did everybody fire above there heads?
Meg: Well what happens the next time they break out?
Jim: They won't, not for a while anyway, by that time the police should be here and well have
enough man power to control them
Jim: Well done everybody now hold your positions, if they try to break out again call me,
I'm going to set up a control centre in the visiting suite, come on meg
(THE WOMEN RETURN TO RECEPTION)
Hazel: I reckon they're trying to kill us
Sandy: Did you get hit?
Hazel: No I fell over but I reckon it's bust
Sandy: Well can you move your fingers?
Hazel: Yeah, but it bloody hurts
Sandy: Oh its probably only a sprain, look get her to the examination room, kate will fix her
up
Hazel: One good thing, atleast we've got a Doc I suppose
Phyllis: Yeah it's better than when the Screws were here
Marie: So what do we do now?
Sandy:(SHOUTING) I'm thinking!!!
Marie: Oh that'll do a fat lot of good, you heard him out there, the Cops are gonna be here
any minute, they'll be crawling through that door before you know where you are
Phyllis: What do you think we should do?
Marie: I'm not running this show
Phyllis: Well shut up then (TO SANDY) What are we gonna do?
Sandy: Well were supposed to be getting publicity right, you get hold of the Telephone Book
and start looking up Newspapers
Marie: (ON SEEING THE FILES) Ha Ha look at this lot, our files, I ought to find out what you
lot are in for
Sandy: If you want to read something you read your own Bloody file, leave the snooping
up to the Screws
Marie: Yeah, well it would probably make more interesting reading anyway
Phyllis: Here Sandy
(SANDY IS SHOWN THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS FOR THE LOCAL MEDIA)
Sandy: O.K.
(JIM AND MEG ARE STATIONED IN THE VISITING SUITE)
Jim: Are you alright?
Meg: I'm fine
Jim: Maybe you should go home
Meg: No you need all the help you can get
Jim: Well to be quite frank your not being much help at the moment are you?
(TWO POLICEMEN WALK IN)
S.Thomas: Which one of you two's incharge
Jim: I am I'm Deputy Governor Fletcher
S.Thomas: Senior Thomas, this is Mick Ball
Jim: Well how many men have you got?
S.Thomas: Just the two local Divvy? cars, us and two others
Jim: Well that's not enough to go in there and get the women back in to there cells
S.Thomas: Were not going in there mate, its not our job, we'll stand guard and make sure
they don't get out, if you want someone to go in you better call the men's prison
they can send in the heavy squad
Jim: No, No I don't want anybody to get hurt, not if I can avoid it, look can you get on the
Radio, see if they can find the Governor Mrs. Davidson
S.Thomas: Right, you go that Mic, Mrs. Davidson, you better rig up a mobile Radio for
this place too if were going to use it as Headquarters, What is this place
anyway?
Jim: It's a Visiting Suite, The Women use it for Privater visits from there Husbands
S.Thomas: Oh well atleast it'll come in useful now.
Where do you want the Men positioned?
Jim: Well outside the Main Entrance the Women can only get from either there or the
Loading Bay, the doors form the Kitchen and the Roof, their Pad-locked from the
Outside so the keys they've got won't help them there
S.Thomas: Keys? where'd they get Keys from?
Jim: They probably made the themselves
S. Thomas: Not from one of your own staff?
Meg: Janet and Steve, they were on patrol when the Riot started, they haven't come out
they could be held hostage
Jim: No No I don't think so, if the women have hostages they would have shown them by now
Meg: But there in there somewhere
S.Thomas: Either Way it complicates matters, look I'll station my men, then get on to
Telecom see if we can intercept call coming in and out of the Prison, if they
start calling the Press were going to have reporters and Camera crews
swarming all over the place
Jim: Probably too late already
S. Thomas: Yeah probably
(SANDY HAS GOT THROUG TO THE MEDIA ON THE PHONE)
Sandy: We'd like control of the Prison, so weve locked the Screws out and were in charge
They just Shot at us, No of course its not a Bloody hoax, look hang up, ring back
and then see who answers the Bloody phone, We are not budging until conditions
in the prison are improved, well come and see for yourself, Bloody Idiot
Phyllis: What happened
Sandy: Oh their ringing the Police to check the story
Marie: Oh they'll probably deny it, or tell em' not to print it, the Establishment always
sticks together
Sandy: They can't ignore us forever, sooner or later the press will be here
Phyllis: Yeah
Marie: Yeah that's if the Screws don't break back in and take over again
Sandy: Well it's up to us to stop them then isn't it, have you locked the loading-bay doors?
Phyllis: The others are doing it now
Sandy: Good o.k. drag some of this stuff across this door
Phyllis: That won't stop them
Sandy: It'll slow them down, that's all we need
Marie: Well watching all this hard work is making me very hungry I think I'll go down to the
kitchen see what's going on down there, any one else coming
Sandy: You can bring us all back something to eat
Marie: Yeah right-oh
(JANET AND STEVE REMAIN HIDDEN IN THE LAUNDRY)
Janet: Can you hear anything?
Janet: Do you think that was Rifle Fire that we heard?
Steve: Probably just warning shot's
Janet: Yeah well if they've got guns why dont they come in here and get us out?
Steve: Don't know, maybe they think were being held hostage, they might be afraid to rush
the place with us in here
Janet: Well we wouldn't get in the way
Steve: Well they don't know that
Janet: Are you scared
Steve: I'm not sure, I don't know the women well enough yet, I don't know what their
capable of
Janet: Yeah well in that case be scared
Steve: Now we know how they fell being locked in here
Janet: Yeah well it's not the same is it, I mean we don't know what they'd do if they caught
us where as their protected by the Law
Steve: I bet they don't see it like that
Janet: Yeah well maybe not, well how long do you think were going to be stuck in here
Steve: I don't know, It shouldn't take them too long to surpress a few women
Janet: Don't be too sure, some of them are real Bitches
Steve: You sound as if you hate them all
Janet: Well what do you expect, you put yourself out for them, they spit in your face
and then they pull an act like this
Steve: We don't know how we'd react in there place do we?
Janet: look what are we going to do?
Steve: Well the first things to let people know were safe
Janet: Well do you really think we are
Steve: Well we are unless the Women catch us, look I'm going to try to get to a phone
Janet: I'll come with you
Steve: No, I'll have a better chance on my own, you wait here and keep hidden, I'll be back
as soon as I can
Sandy: Maries taken her time with that food
Phyllis: Yeah fat cows probably eaten it all herself
Sandy: Yeah oh well if she's getting stuck into our usual Gunk she's welcome
(SANDY NOTICES THE TELEPHONE EXTENTIN LINE IS FLASHING)
Sandy: Someone's using the phone
Steve: Hello Wentworth Police Station, My names Faulkner I'm a Prison Officer at the
Detention Centre, the Women are Rioting, yeh well I know about it too mate, I'm
stuck in the middle of it, were trapped inside
Sandy: 64, Where's that
Phyllis: The Staff Room, Do you think it's a Screw
Steve: No they haven't found us yet (THE LINE GOES DEAD) Hello
Sandy: It's gone dead, but it was a Man's voice, o.k. get him
(THE WOMEN REACH THE STAFF ROOM)
Phyllis: Check the Lockers
Phyllis: He must have heard Sandy when she tried to listen in
Come on I'm going to tell Sandy, we missed him, Joy, you stay here if you see him
yell
(BACK IN THE VISITING SUITE)
S.Thomas: Shouldn't be long now, how's it going Meg, KOVC This is Wentworth Mobile
Control, do you receive me over
KOVC: Receiving you Wentworth Mobile Control
S.Thomas: Well that's something at least were in contact
Jim: See if theyve found Mrs Davidson yet will you
S.Thomas: KOVC this is Wentworth Mobile Control, any news about the whereabouts of
Mrs Davidson
KOVC: Were just checking that
Jim: I thought they would have found her by now
Meg: Hasn't she gone away for a few days
Jim: Yes but the Department should have a contact number for her, look Meg this situation
is likely to last for a few day's, I'm going to have to call in some extra staff to relieve the
Officers guarding the front entrance, do you feel up to a stint on duty
Meg: I'd like to Jim I really would but I just don't know whether I could trust myself, I mean I
wasn't much good the last time they tried to break out was I
Jim: Oh come on we all crack up at some stage or other, the pressure gets to all of us
you've always coped before, this is not the first Riot you've been involved in
Meg: When those women came charging at me I was petrified, all I could think of was the
time Bill was killed, all he ever did was help those women, you never knew him
did you?
Jim: No
Meg: He was a good Man, too good to waste like that
KOVC: Now Wentworth's Mobile Control, this is KOVC, you receiving me over
S.Thomas: Got you KOVC
KOVC: Now Mrs Davidson's out of town, she's starting back now, she'll be here by morning
In the meantime her instructions are to maintain the situation as it is
Jim: Do they realise weve got two officers trapped in there?
KOVC: One of the Prison Officers inside the Prison has just telephoned the local station so
far theyve managed to avoid being captured by the prisoners
S.Thomas: Thanks KOVC, out, If you'd like to get through to a higher authority we could
probably arrange it
Jim: Why? Mrs Davidsons the boss as far as I'm concerned, besides there probably all safely
tucked in there bed's by now, their not going to get up to try and save our necks
S.Thomas: (ON SEEING MEG) What's wrong with her?
Jim: Her Husband was killed in a Riot here a few years ago, look have you got a spare
Car, I'd like to send her home
S.Thomas: Sure, seems nothing else is going to happen around here for a while, I think I
could rustle up some coffee too, Its going to be a long night
Jim: It'll be a damn site longer for the Officers trapped in the Prison
(MARIE AND OTHERS ARE EXPLORING THE KITCHEN)
Marie: Ha Ha, there's no way we have to eat that muck for Breakfast, lets see if we can find
something Edible
Hazel: Look at this lot, Sausages, haven't seen any of these in the dining room for a while
Marie: Well theyve probably been keeping them for themselves, see if you can find a frying
pan, anyone got a match, ha here you go, beauty
Sandy: What's going on
Hazel: Were trying to find ourselves something decent to eat
Sandy: Well we've got some more important things to find, theres a screw still in the prison
he must have been trapped here when we took over, it must be the new block
Faulkner
Marie: Ha a Screw loose in the Prison
(THE WOMEN LAUGH)
Sandy: It isn't funny, getting hold of a hostage could make all the difference they'd have
to listen to us then, they wouldn't rush us so quickly either
Hazel: Well he could be anywhere
Sandy: Well you'd better start looking now then hadn't you
Hazel: Well what do you reckon Marie
Marie: Yeah well you heard her, It's going to take us all night though, were going to need a
bit of help
Sandy: Yeah well let all the women out of solitary, I want every room searched and every
corridor guarded, I want the screw found, come on
(STEVE IS HIDING IN THE ROOF PANELING IN THE STAFF ROOM)
Hazel: Guarding the corridors, anybody would think we were a load of Screws
Phyllis:It would help if we could ourselges a hostage
Hazel: She should have thought of that before we broke out, It would have been easy enough
to get one if we'd have been properly organized
Phyllis: Too late to worry about that now, you see anything
Hazel: Well it would help if someone found the main switch an put the lights on
Phyllis: What's the matter Haze, frightened of running into him in the dark?
Hazel: You've got to be be Jokeing, I wouldn't mind bumping into that spunk anytime
Phyllis: Yeah, reckon you'd have to stand in line
Hazel: Well if I see him first, you lot'll have to que up
Hazel: Here help me move this table will ya'
Phyllis: What for?
Hazel: Well if were going to have to stand guarding that corridor all night, I want something
to sit on don't I?
Phyllis: Yeah, your cooking with Gas Haze
(MORNING HAS BROKEN, AND THE GOVERNOR ARRIVES)
Jim: It been a long night
Erica: Mr Fletcher, have there been any new developments?
Jim: Not since you ordered us to do nothing
Erica: Yes I'm sorry I took so long to get here, This is Inspector Thorn, he'll be incharge
of any Police actin that's necessary
Jim: It's necessary already, do you realize that two of our officers are still in there?
Erica: Yes
Jim: So when do we go in and get them
Erica: It's not as Easy as that is it? We could be placing them in more danger
Jim: The police have had a phone call from Steve Faulkner, their in hiding, the Women
haven't found them yet
Erica: That was hours ago
Jim: Well we could have gone in straight away if you hadn't of stopped us
I.Thorn: Well look why don't we discuss this inside, there seems little point in standing out
here
Erica: Of course, let me know if there any new developments out here Mrs Barfield, this
way Inspector
(KATE PETERSON JOINS SANDY AND THE WOMEN IN RECEPTION)
Kate: What's happening?
Margo: You tell us
Sandy: How's Hazel's arm?
Kate: O.k although to hear her carry on, you'd think it was Broken in half-a-dozen places
Sandy: Hmm yeah
Kate: She just wanted some pills I think
Margo: Well why don't you give her some? If you ask me I think we should Break open the
medicine cabinet and give everyone ago
Sandy: Ah great, and a fat lot of good you'd be then if anything happened
Margo: Well theres nothing happening is there, cor what's wrong with this place, turn me
back for five minutes and a bunch of strangers take over, whats the big deal with
popping a few pills, Bea Smiths not around is she? Anyway the news in D Block was
that you'd taken over, You scared of Smith too?
Sandy: Shut up Gaffney
Margo: You wanna make me?
Kate: It won't help arguing amongst ourselves
Margo: Oh god it's Mary Poppins
Sandy: That's twice Gaffney, one more and I'll start bouncing you across the walls
Margo: Yeah alright, What do you expect, were just sitting around in here waiting for them
to come in and get us
Sandy: Have you got any better Ideas?
Margo: Yeah, burn the place down
Kate: Your mad
Margo: Why? When this lot's over we'll all be back in Solitary, and they'll through away the
key, you burn the place down, they can't lock us up
Lizzie: Cor you'd only end up in Barnhurst
Margo: Wouldn't be so bad, there are blokes in Barnhurst, Chrissie Latham got herself
up-the-duff there remember?
Sandy: Well there you go, you wouldn't like that to happen to you a nice young girl like you
would you?
(MOUSE LAUGHS)
Margo: What are you laughing at?
Mouse: Nothing
Sandy: Mouse go and check the corridors, see if anyones seen Faulkner
Mouse: Oh why me?
Sandy: Because I said so
Lizzie: Come along Mouse you come with me, we'll have a look in the Kitchen anything's
better than staying with this Bloody lot
Kate: Faulkner's still in the Prison?
Sandy: Yeah he must have been trapped here, when we started Rioting, Ive got the Women
looking for him
Kate: Well the Officers always work in two's, if there's one that means there must be
another one around
Margo: Doesn't matter how many there are does it? We haven' t found them
(FAULKNER JUMPS DOWN FROM THE ROOF PANELING, THE GUARD IS ASLEEP AND HE
NARROWLY AVOIDS BEING SEEN BY LIZZIE AND MOUSE)
Mouse: I don't suppose she'd of seen anything
Lizzie: Wake up you silly Bugger
Mouse: I'm hungry
Lizzie: Well we'll raid the Kitchen after weve finished this lot, not that I think we'll find
anything after last night
(BEA SMITH SIT'S IN A HOSPITAL BED, AFTER AN OPPERATION, SHE IS UNAWARE OF THE RIOT)
Police: See you've got your appetite back Smith
Bea: Well don't sound so disappointed
Police: I'm not, the sooner you get better, the sooner I get back on some decent duty
(BEA SUDDENLY IS ALERTED TO THE BEDSIDE TELEVISION)
Reporter: The Department of Corrective Services this morning confirmed reports that
Women at the Wentworth Detention Centre have Rioted and taken over the Prison
The Department says Police and Prison officers have the Prison Surrounded,
there is no danger to people living in the immediate area, a group of citizens
headed by Margaret Ferguson voiced there concerns, when they heard of the Riot
(BEA SWITCHES THE TELEVISION SET OFF)
Bea: Did you know about this?
Police: Yeah, it started last night
Bea: Why didn't you tell me?
Police: What's it got to do with you?
Bea: Listen those Women are my mates, and theres a women just been transferred to
Wentworth that's a real troublemaker, they might need my help
Police: Their causing enough trouble without your help Smith
Bea: I only want to speak to them on the phone
Police: Forget it
(BACK IN THE PRISON)
Jim: Well if were not going to storm the place, what are we going to do?
Erica: We'll take to them, find out why they Rioted, and what they want
Jim: We know what they want, they want to get out of there, they want there Husbands
to come and visit them in here, they want two-hundred Dollars a week and nice
soft bed's, that's what they want
Erica: Well let's here it from them shall we
Jim: What good will that do?
I.Thorn: If we talk to them they might let slip whether theyve got the two other officers and it
would give us something Concrete to act on
Erica: And it will give us more time
Jim: Alright
Erica:I thought we were going to get a Telephone link to the Prison
I.Thorn: Were waiting on Telecom, it shouldn't take long
Erica: Well could we find out?
I.Thorn: Yes sure, Hall was looking after it, I'll see how he got on
(COLEEN POWELL ARRIVES)
Colleen: Mrs Davidson, I heard the news on the Radio and came in as soon as I could
look why wasn't I told earlier? I could have helped
Jim: No no-one can help, because we are not doing anything
Erica: We didn't think it necessary to get everyone in
Colleen: Oh I see, Where's Meg?
Jim: I sent her home
Colleen: Is she hurt?
Jim: No No she's just tired
(COLLEEN SCOFFS AT MEGS POOR DETERMINATION)
Colleen: Really? Ho Ho, probably just as well ever since she did that stint as a Parole Officer
She's been softer than ever, she's been more of a hindrance than a help
Jim: Meg's a good officer, officer Powell, it's a pity theres not more like her
Colleen: Then why isn't she here?
Erica: That is enough, now look I am running this operation and there is to be no more
bickering from either of you
I.Thorn: No good I'm afraid, technical hold up
Erica: Well could you get me a Megaphone?
I.Thorn: Of course
Erica: Well let's try that then shall we
(ERICA APPROACHES THE PRISON)
Erica: You Women in there, can you hear me? This is Mrs Davidson, If you can hear me I
want some of you to come out here and tell us why you have taken this action, we
would like to hear your grievances, tell us what you want
(INSIDE THE PRISON)
Margo: She's gotta' be Joking, as if she didn't know
Kate: We all know what you want, to Burn the place down
Margo: Oh there are other things
Kate: Such as
Margo: Well
Kate: I'm Waiting
Margo: Well for a start, we could get rid of Solitary, and they could let us wear our own
clothes and a single room for everyone with it's own toilet and Shower, you know
a bit of privacy instead of those buggers perving on us the whole time
Sandy: Margo's right they had a bloke on shower duty the other morning
Kate: It was a staff shortage, if you remember
Sandy: That's not the point, it's the principle
Kate: They'd never give in to all that
Margo: Why not? We have got em' where we want em' let's Screw em' theyve got no choice
Erica: If you are not prepared to talk, we will have to retake the Prison by force, that will
mean Violence and Blood-Shed, we do not want to see anyone hurt
Sandy: They've got a choice, O.K get rid of the Barricade
Jim: It doesn't seem to be working
Erica: I've never met a Prisoner yet who didn't want an opportunity to complain
about conditions
(THE PRISON DOOR OPENS)
I.Thorn: Yeah hang on, the doors opening
Sandy: We need time to prepare a list
Erica: How long?
Sandy: 15 Minutes
Erica: Who is preparing the list?
Sandy: Me, Kate and Margo
Jim: Theyve let Gaffney out of Solitary, we'll never be able to reason with her
Erica: Very well, we'll meet you here in Fifteen minutes
Jim: When they come out we should grab them
Erica: No
Jim: With the leaders caught, they'll soon give up
Erica: I will not do anything to Jeopodise the safety of those two officers inside
Jim: I'm thinking of their safety, the longer there in there the less chance they've got
Erica: Mr Fletcher you heard me No
(THE THREE WOMEN EMERGE)
Erica: It's going to be rather difficult talking from this distance
Sandy: Well you come over here, were not coming out any further
Erica: Wait here
Jim: No, were coming with you, they haven't mentioned Janet or Faulkner, they may try
to take you as a hostage
Erica: Very well
Sandy: That's close enough
Erica: We will not get anywhere, unless you show a little trust Edwards
Margo: Why should we trust you?
Kate: Alright Margo
Margo: Shut up
Erica: What is it you want?
Sandy: O.K we want all the new Security restrictions stopped, we want the security gates left
open so we can move about a bit
Margo: Yeah and we don't want Blokes perking on us in the showers
Erica: Mr Faulkner was only on duty in the Showers because of a staff shortage
Sandy: You wouldnt have a staff shortage if your officers didnt go around in two's spying on
us all the time
Erica: The officers patrol in two's for there own safety youre behaviour has proved this is
neccisary
Sandy: And what about our Safety, when weve got officers like Powell threatning to bash us
up all the time
Erica: If you have any specific complaints about any of the officers, I am prepared to listen
Margo: Yeah but your not going to do nothing about it are ya'
Erica: Do you have any specific complaints? It seems to me you don't know why you started
this Riot, Peterson I'm surprised to see you involved in this
Kate: Why Mrs Davidson I am a Prisoner, there are things that should be improved, like food
and Hygeine
Margo: Yeah and more make-up and proper Shampoo
Erica: You can buy all of those things if you really want them
Sandy: On the Money we earn
Margo: Yeah and in Solitary you don't get nuffin'
Erica: Nobody is sent to Solitary unless they deserve it
Margo: Yeah well we want it stopped
Erica: Is there anything else
Sandy: Yes, we want more Money, More time Outside, and proper visits in the visiting suite
with our fellas'
Erica: I understand your husband is in Pentridge Edwards
Sandy: That shouldnt mean he cant visit me Mrs Davidson
Erica: Very Well, I will put your demands to the Department if you all return to your cells
Sandy: No way, were out and were staying out untill we get what we want
Erica: I don't think you know what you want
Sandy: We want things improved, it's as simple as that
Erica: Very well, as I said I shall put your demands to the Department, but I doubt if there
will be any action under these circumstances
Margo: Yeah well you better get some action cause we're not giving up untill you do
Jim: They haven't mentioned Janet or Faulkner I think we should rush them now
Erica: No we are not doing anything untill we know that they are safe
(STEVE TAKES A QUITE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A SANDWHICH, JUST BEFORE LIZZIE AND
MOUSE ARRIVE)
Lizzie: You'll be lucky to find something to eat in this place
Lizzie: Wouldnt you think they'd put there dirty knives in the sink?
Mouse: Do you reckon we should take some food to the others?
Lizzie: I suppose so
Mouse: Do you think this lot's going to do us any good Lizzie
Lizzie: Na' waste of time, I wish Bea was here, we wouldnt of started this Riot
Mouse: We had Riots when Bea was here
Lizzie: I know but she always knew what she was doing didn't she?
(MOUSE AGREES)
(BEA PRESSES THE HOSPITAL BELL, AFTER THERE IS NO REPLY SHE STAGGERS OUT OF
BED, JUST AS THE DOCTOR AND THE POLICE WOMAN ARRIVE)
Doctor: Mrs Smith, What are you doing out of Bed?
Police: Not planning on leaving without telling us are you Smith?
Bea: Oh use your head, I'd hardly be pressing the buzzer if I was going to do that
now would I?
Doctor: Here lye back and stop upseting yourself, where did you think you were going?
Bea: Iv'e got to phone the Prison
Doctor: After the operation youv'e been through you havent go to do anything except
rest and recuperate
Bea: But there's a Riot on there, my mates are involved
Doctor: Where did you hear this
Police: It was on the T.V
Doctor: I see, well theres nothing you can do about it
Bea: I might be able to help, look the women will listen to me
Police: Smith's something of a gang-boss inside the Prison Doctor, she probably organised
the whole thing
Bea: Oh come of it, how could I organize anything from in here, look please just let me
speak to the Governor, I might be able to help
Doctor: Alright, you lie here and rest and I'll get a message to him
Bea: Her
Doctor: I guess the Prison Governor can decide this better than we can, besides we cannot
have Mrs Smith upseting herself
(THE DOCTOR WALKS OUT TAKING THE TELEVISION SET WITH HIM, MEANWHILE AT THE PRISON...)
Kate: Do you think they'll give us what we want
Sandy: Da' know
Margo: Course they will you two were such polite little girsls out there, how could they
possibly refuse
(SANDY IS READY TO THUMP MARGO)
Sandy: You were saying
Margo: Alright but what are we going to do?
Sandy: We wait
Margo: A fat lot of use that's going to be
Kate: I surpose you could do something better
Margo: Yeah, if you lot followed me I'd make sure the Screw knew who they were up against
Sandy: Ha
Kate: Look were supposed to be doing something better not worse
Margo: Oh Yeah and how much better is it going to be with the sought of stupid things you
asked for
Kate: Aren't you forgetting something
Margo: What? Yeah the new security measures they didn't make much difference to me
when they...
(SANDY THUMPS MARGO HARD IN THE STOMACH, THE OTHER PRISONERS ARE AMAZED)
Sandy: I warned you Gaffney, now you've got a choice, either shut up, or get back to the pound
which is it going to be
Margo: Bloody typical isn't it you two are like a couple of screws yourself you've got us
guarding the corridors you threatening to send me to the pound, I reckon we'd have
been better off...
(SANDY THREATENS MARGO WITH A BEATING, SHE RETREATS)
(INSIDE THE VISITING SUITE)
Erica: Will this be a direct line to the Prison
I.Thorn: To the Prison and Outside, all calls coming in, and going out come through these
phones
Erica: Well at least the next Time we speak to the Women we won't have to shout across the
Gardens...
(TED DOUGLAS THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT ENTERS THE BUILDING)
Ted: They'll be no more speaking with the women not for a while anyway, The Minister
received the list of Demands that you passed on to him and he's sent me to take
charge
Erica: Well I don't think that's necessary
Jim: Well we haven't been doing much good have we?
Erica: Weve been waiting for a reply from the Minister
Ted: Well you've got it, I'm taking charge, now they'll be no discussion and no concession
nothing until the Women are back in there cells
Erica: And how do you hope to achieve that?
Ted: By force if Necessary
Erica: You do realise that two of my Officers are still in the Prison
Ted: All the more reason to act quickly
Jim: Couldn't agree more
Erica: Well I think we can achieve the same thing by waiting, you were there when I spoke
to the Women Mr Fletcher, they were indecisive and arguing, I think that eventually
this thing will just peter out if given time
Ted: I'm not sure if weve got the time
(THE PHONE RINGS, IT IS BEA'S DOCTOR)
I.Thorn: I'll get it
Ted: If the Women gain anything out of this Riot it will be a direct invitation for all prisoners
to try the same thing, this Security crackdown wasn't meant for Wentworth alone, it was
a Departmental Directive to all Prisons
Erica: Well it hasn't achieved very much here
I.Thorn: It's a Doctor from the Local Hospital, one of his patients is an inmate, she'd like
to talk to you about the Riot her names Smith
Erica: Oh yes of course
Ted: Thank the Doctor for his trouble and hang up thankyou Inspector, there's only one
decision to be made now, do we starve them out or drag them out
(INSIDE THE PRISON MOUSE AND LIZZIE HAVE BROUGHT SOME FOOD)
Mouse: Grab some
Margo: About Bloody time, I'm starving, ay it's cold
Mouse: Well they didn't have any Matches
Margo: That's great isn't it, at least when the Screws were in charge you could surely get
three Hot meals a day
Sandy: Not like you to complain Margo, If you want it heated up do it yourself, Mouse will
you stick that stuff down over there will you
Kate: Margo's right you know if we don't do something soon weve had it they don't have to do
anything, they can just starve us out, turn the Water supply of, anything
Sandy: Well we tried to rush them and they fired at us
Mouse: Well there's still the two screws loose in the Prison
Margo: Very funny
Mouse: What?
Sandy: Mouse is right, if we had those hostages we'd be fine, they wouldn't rush us
or starve us out they'd be too scared of hurting there own kind
Margo: Yeah but we haven't got them, have we?
Sandy: That's because you haven't looked hard enough have you, you've been too busy
winging
Margo: Haven't seen you helping
(ONCE AGAIN SANDY THREATENS TO THUMP MARGO)
Margo: O.k O.K I'll find em' and when I do, you'll see some real action, anyone coming
with me?
Women: Yeah
Margo: Let's go
Sandy: Well at least there doing something positive
Kate: Yes, only trouble is now there following Margo and not you
(AT THE HOSPITAL)
Bea: Did you get hold of Mrs Davidson
Doctor: Yes, she wont talk to you
Bea: But why not?
Doctor: Well obviously she thinks it's a waste of time
Police: Or she thinks you'd make matters worse
Bea: Well what happens now
Doctor: Nothing, all you can do is wait, now I know its difficult but you must try and keep
calm, well how can I when I dont even know what's going on at least give me back
my T.V so I can see what's happening
Police: It was the T.V that upset her in the first place
Doctor: True, but it's questionable which is worse, having her worrying what's happening or
letting here know, alright I'll have you Television brought back but remember One
thing, no matter What you hear, there's nothing you can do about it
(MARGO AND THE OTHERS SEARCH FOR THE OFFICERS)
Margo: You two search the store room, we'll try the staff room again and this time we'll bust
open the lockers, they might have locked themselves inside
Mouse: We'll bust them? Well what with?
Margo: I don't know, we'll find something
(MARGO SPOT'S THE PANELING IS UNEVEN)
Margo: It's the screw I've found him
(SHE STACKS UP THE CHAIRS AND FALLS)
Margo: Hey
Mouse: Ah Margo
(FAULKNER RUNS OFF)
Sandy: What happened?
Mouse: Margo found Faulkner
Margo: Yeah and these silly buggers let him get away
Sandy: Kate have alook at the cut on her head
Margo: I'm alright
Kate: No it needs cleaning, will you go to the examination room and get me some cotton
Wool, disinfectant, lint and Plaster
Sandy: Where was he?
Margo: Oh he was in a trap door just inside the Staffroom
Sandy: On this floor, right with Women guarding every corridor he can't get away, you go
and get the Women doon from every other floor, Now we know where he is were going
to get him
Margo: Yeah, and he'll be Bloody sorry when we do
(OUTSIDE IN THE VISITING SUITE)
Erica: Well if they want to talk lets atleast give them the opportunity
(THE PHONE RINGS)
Ted: Where is that call coming from?
I.Thorn: Inside the Prison
Ted: Yes
Steve: Well who's that?
Ted: Douglas from the Department is that you Faulkner?
Steve: Well yes but how did I get on to you?
Ted: That doesn't matter now, where are you?
Steve: I'm in the Governors office
Ted: Have the Women got you?
Steve: No but it's only a matter of time, look you've got to act quickly
Ted: What about Miss Conway?
Steve: The last time I saw her she was hiding in the laundry, but she's quite safe but I
can't get to her, The Women have posted guards in all the corridors, they almost
caught me a while ago, they know I'm somewhere in the building, look you've
got to get them before they get me
(MEANWHILE IN RECEPTION)
Margo: Ow
Kate: I'm sorry
Margo: Yeah I bet you are
Mouse: Oh I've left guards on all the stairs o.k Where do we start looking?
Sandy: We'll have to look through every room in turn
Kate: I think we should start with the switch-board, look at this
(THE EXTENTION ONCE AGAIN REVEALS TO THE WOMEN STEVE'S LOCATION)
Margo: The Bastard he's probably ringing the cops
Sandy: You Bloody fool what did you do that for? No he'll know were after him
Margo: Well I couldn't let him keep talking
Sandy: Look which room was it quick
Kate: Er the Governor's office
Sandy: O.K get him
Women: There he is
(STEVE TRY'S TO SHUT HIMSELF IN THE OFFICE BUT THE WOMEN GRAB HIM AND THROW
HIM ON THE DESK)
Margo: What are you waiting for, let's get him, Nice to see you again Mr Faulkner
Steve: That bang on your head was an accident Gaffney, I didn't push you, you fell, you'll
gain nothing by this
Kate: He's right there's no point in hurting him, we just need him for bargaining power
Margo: Listen to her will ya', what do you think this is a bloody Sunday School Picnic
Sandy: Lay off Margo, Kate's right, we don't want to hurt him, I've got special plans for
Steve, alright get his clothes off
(THE WOMEN RIP STEVE'S CLOTHES OFF OF HIM)
(IN THE VISITING SUITE)
Ted: No the whole damn things gone dead
Erica: Well they could have found him
Jim: If they haven't yet, they soon will
Ted: Precisely, call the Riot squad in Fletcher, I'm going to see the Minister and
were going to need your men as well Inspector, were going in
